Friday Pieday

The boys came up with a new weekly menu for the Harrison House:

Monday Madness: Italian
Taco Tuesda: Mexican
Waffle Wednesday: Brunch
Thirsty Thursday: The day mom relents and lets them partake of that deadly ambrosia otherwise known as Kool-Aid
Friday Pieday: dessert!
Slowwwww Saturday: Crockpot meal
Sunday Soup: well, soup, what else?

So tonight, 8:00 rolled around and the boys asked if they could have a snack. Somehow, I forgot to feed my kids tonight! It dawned on me that they hadn't had supper yet. They didn't realize it was so late and weren't questioning it. I was supposed to go grocery shopping yesterday, but STILL hadn't gotten around to it, so we all jumped in the van and went to McDonald's for supper: chocolate sundaes. How's that for Mom-of-the-Year? Posted by Picasa

Come on baby, light my fire

Meet Olaf. Olaf is a happy-go-lucky Norseman.

One day, Olaf got kicked in the head by a horse.

Poor Olaf.

But his family gave him a proper Chieftain burial that would make any Viking proud.

Days like these are why we homeschool. :)

I was reading Little Town on the Prairie to the boys when Sarah woke up to be fed. When I got back to the couch, my sweeties had given out on me. Their pig-riding adventures have caught up with them apparently. I've banged and clattered all around them cleaning up the house for the night, and they are still in this position on the couch. I think I'll just let them stay there tonight. Posted by Picasa

Weekend of Firsts

A little late, but here goes:

On Friday, Honor had her first haircut. She was so cute...hopping into the chair, lifting her chin for the cape to be spread around her, looking so grown up. The Farmer's Almanac said that was the day to cut hair to encourage growth. I doubt there is anything to that stuff, but it was sure worth a try. I've tried everything else to no avail. I've even used Nioxin shampoo without results.

The next morning was Joel's soccer game. He scored 2 goals and just pretty well dominated the game. He recovered the ball from the other team over and over again. He just really got in there. It was incredible!

And then there was Ethan's First Race. He had a blast. It was a full, fun day for the whole family. Ethan came in 3rd place. I honestly think his car was the fastest car there, he just hasn't quite perfected keeping it steady. Every swerve of the wheel is a chance for the other guy to catch up.

After that, it poured rain and the award ceremony was washed out. We huddled under an awning and shared a funnel cake. We were planning on having dinner with friends but they called to say they had a stomach bug in the house, so we went home with a bucket o' chicken and watched the Buttercream Gang instead.

It was a perfect day.

*I finally figured out how to get multiple pictures on there, but not the way anyone advised. I had to do it in html. Not sure why the other way isn' working for me. I'm doing something wrong, but don't know what it is. Oh, well. They're on there. :)

My Little Monkey

Honor climbed her first tree today. It's just an ornamental pear, but she did it. She slid the plastic slide over to it and climbed on up. Ethan stayed right beneath her the whole time. She was so proud of herself!

Also, Sarah is officially sitting up by herself now. For the longest time, I had to sit behind her or prop her up to let her sit down because she'd get distracted and flop backwards. Finally, she is able to sit up unassisted. And the same week that she started sitting up, she has started pushing herself up to sitting. She's taking off! Posted by Picasa

Easter

Easter pics are up and running.

Not the first, not the last

Joel got a black eye getting in the van. No one is quite sure how it happened, but he somehow slid on gravel and slammed his face into the footboard of the van. He's pretty proud of it. :) Posted by Picasa

Poor Kid

Honor kept pestering me as I ran around the house cleaning up and for some reason I got it in my head that she was asking for a cracker. I handed her a Ryvita and it slowly (way too slowly) dawned on me that she was asking for help not for food. She stuck a butterfly net on her head and then turned it sideways, getting it stuck. I never even glanced at her as she chased me around the house. How could I not notice that? ugh. there goes that mom-of-the-year award. The funny thing is, she paused when she got the cracker and actually tried to eat it through the net. It wasn't what she was asking for, but 'okay.' I got her to try taking a bite again after I grabbed the camera. Posted by Picasa

Earth Movers

We started in on the garden today! It will be our first attempt at anything beyond a tomato.

The kids are very excited.

I'm hoping to get them over their fear of worms by offering them money for fresh worms. Posted by Picasa

Thanks Aunt Misty!!!

Look what the kiddos got in the mail today! MMMMMMmmmmmmmm......chocolate. It doesn't show up well in this picture, but this awesome gal also sent a candy necklace for Honor and a bunny shaped teething ring for Gracie.

I hope she realizes that I am not nearly as thoughtful and sweet as she is. I've got the generous thoughts, but when it comes to actually effort, I fall short. Getting a package together takes time, motivation, and money....none of which I have. Who am I kidding? She already knows. She knows that I'll be doing good to mail her birthday present within 3 months of her actual birthdate. Out of us four girls, can you tell which one is the loser sister? Well, we all have our roles to fill. I can fill my role with flair. :) Posted by Picasa

Puppens #4

This puppy's name is Rocket. Can you tell which dog was named by a six year old boy? Rocket is a go-getter. He's been flopping his little body all over the dog house since setting up residence there. He has been toddling around the yard for over a week.

Okay. I don't know WHAT we're going to do with them. We live in town without a fence (I know, I know: we were irresponsible and just asking for trouble) so keeping two puppies is not really an option. I'm hoping we can find some good homes for them nearby. It's gonna be hard to part with them. Posted by Picasa

Puppens #3

This puppy's name is Lucy. Lucy's interests include sleeping, rolling over, and sleeping some more. She is a lazy little thing. We did actually spot her outside of the doghouse a couple times this week, but she was, of course, sleeping. Posted by Picasa

Puppens #2

These fat babies are nearly 3 weeks old now and doing fine, though they kind of resemble guinea pigs. Their bellies rub the ground when they walk! Posted by Picasa

Puppens #1

I have spent the last hour trying to post multiple photos with text lined up beside each shot....to no avail. If anyone has mastered this tricky pain in the butookis, please share.

Ahem. Puppens: The story of how these cuties showed up is over at my blog . They were an interesting surprise. Posted by Picasa

Guess what she's saying...

Usually she saves it for when we're grocery shopping and actually looking at cheese, but every now and then she just can't keep from sharing with anyone who will listen.......

"It's CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE, Gromit!" Posted by Picasa

I will update soon - honest!

We've just been so busy lately! It's been too cold to take the puppies out of the doghouse, so I haven't shared those pics yet. Sarah is rolling all over the place now; but no scooting yet. She's on the verge of sitting up unattended, but is still throwing herself backwards without warning, so she sits surrounded by pillows.

I promise to catch up really, really soon!

"This is the best day of my life!"

Joel told me earlier that this is the best day of his life. He said "I got pancakes for breakfast! I finished SIX pages of math! and I rode my bike without training wheels for the first time!" Joel and Ethan went out to ride bikes earlier and Ethan decided to help Joel out. They weren't out there 10 minutes before Ethan ran in the house to tell us Joel was riding by himself. He can't figure out the turning thing yet, but so far, riding into the neighbors' yards and landing on their soft grass seems to be working for him. Posted by Picasa
